Almost all companies have a fairly lengthy Health Equity and DEI page because, they have to. They’ve done too many things wrong and now they have to prove they are nice people. Ours is short.
We don’t force diversity for diversity sake. It simply does not work long term and discrimination is a 2-way street. Too much division is created when anyone is discriminated against and no one wants to be called the “token” anything. We know this from personal and clinical experience. We look for good, smart humans who are fair and just. Guess what happens when those criteria are used? There is an automatic cross-section of the world that are candidates. Yes, smart good people come from all walks of life! That is true Health Equity and DEI without forcing it. All employees know that they are part of the team because they genuinely fit and they have earned it, not because they checked a demeaning box. That is enormously empowering. We are fortunate and grateful to be in a position that transcends other companies legacy situations.
